The Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball team demolished Temple Holy Trinity 65-37 Jan. 27 to secure a playoff berth.
It also means the Flames are a game behind Waco Live Oak in the District 3-3A standings of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.
Though the final score is lopsided, Flames head coach Zakk Revelle said his team didn’t begin to get that margin until the second half.
“It was a 26-25 game at the half,” he said. “They hit some shots. I’ve told our players that the second half of district is more mental.”
Meaning this is the second time these opponents have played the Flames and are better prepared to defend what Faith wants to do. And Holy Trinity was motivated by the 73-29 loss to the Flames Jan. 6.
“That’s something we have to learn how to do and handle better,” Revelle said. “The first couple of minutes, we looked pretty good. We hit one 3-pointer for the whole game. That came from Ben Tatum with less than a minute left in the game.”
During the intermission, coaches challenged the Flames to raise their level of play. And they showed that in the next quarter by outscoring the Celtics 24-5 for a 50-30 advantage headed into the final period.
“We had a really great second half,” the coach said.
Senior power forward Brock Davis scored 45 points to break his previous career high of 40 points he set against Holy Trinity earlier this month and reset his own school record.
“It’s why we worked the ball to him,” the coach said.
Next up is a road trip to Waco Reicher Saturday, Feb. 4, with the Lady Flames taking the court at 12:30 p.m. and the Flames follow at 2 p.m.
The Flames’ contests at Temple Central Texas Christian is moved to Monday, Feb. 6, from its previous date of Jan. 31 because of the freezing weather. The Lady Flames play at 4:30 p.m. with the boys to follow.
Faith welcomes Bryan Brazos Christian Tuesday, Feb. 7. The Lady Flames step on the floor at 6 p.m. and the Flames follow.
